Mediocre movie. Not bad at all, but nowhere good either. lukewarm.

In itself I don't think a spy movie is wrong, and for me it doesn't even have to be full of chases and shootings, but Breach is teetering on the edge of boring. It will all be based on facts, but the idea of the young cop who is underestimated by everyone and who first looks up to his boss and then gets the hang of him is very trite. And, of course, it's "the greatest threat to American security ever," which means Russia is once again the big enemy. Passing on secrets to Russia is about the worst thing an American can do. In the next film that does it like this, I'm on the side of Russia. I always find glorification of America particularly irritating. Breach seems to want to criticize the FBI at first, but it ends in breathless admiration. sigh...

In itself the acting was not bad, although it seemed to go on autopilot. The character development won't help with that. The main character is completely flat, the villain is not very subtle and the boss is just the boss. Only Caroline Dhavernas added a bit of color to the story.

That story was only mildly interesting at times, it never gets surprising. Nothing is tried in terms of camera work or music to add a bit of tension. Breach takes itself very seriously - not me.

Very good film with a constant atmosphere of tension. A great cast that plays great roles. I found the slightly too long-winded semi-psychological discussions between Robert and Eric to be a minus, especially those in the evening in the park. I doubt whether all this actually happened, but this film was certainly worth watching. Too bad they started the movie with the ending of this story; they should have kept that for me until the end.

Exciting thriller with a constantly very oppressive atmosphere, in which you feel that every step one takes is scrutinized, which at any moment can lead to failure of the mission. (The film is also very reminiscent of the 80's classic "The falcon and the snowman", definitely recommended if you like this genre.)

Ryan Philippe plays very well and so does Laura Linney, but Chris Cooper really plays a strong role here! So much charisma, very authoritarian and very believable. Even as a viewer, you hope O'Neill doesn't make a mistake because you're afraid of Hanssen's reaction.

Still surprising that this actor has a relatively small list of (top) films, in which he often does not even have the leading role. Certainly after this film you would expect more, but unfortunately.

With a "based on a true story" you can't go very far and you will have to stick to the facts, but this movie didn't need a different storyline either. Purely exposing Hanssen was exciting enough and was more than worth reviewing.
