After a correspondence, Amy (Carole Lomard) decides to marry Tony (Charles Laughton), the Italian-American owner of a vineyard. However, Tony has already tricked her by sending a picture not of himself, but of his handsome young right-hand man Joe (William Gargan). Amy decides to marry Tony anyway and begins a dramatic affair with the foreman.
