The Panic in Needle Park plot
"God help Bobby and Helen, they're in love in Needle Park"
In New York, all the junkies huddle together in Verdi Square, a square in the city center that is also known as Needle Park. One day, after an illegal abortion, naive Helen meets drug-addicted petty thief Bobby. They fall in love and move in together in a shabby hotel room. Soon Helen also becomes addicted to drugs. In order to pay for the heroin, she is forced to prostitute herself. When Bobby finds out about this, his mind is blown.

Very mediocre.
The story takes almost 2 hours to tell what Mr Mackey sums up in one sentence: 'Drugs are bad, m'kay?'
It's not all that exciting, despite the raw scenes (yes, I'm not into needles).
It is therefore solely thanks to Al Pacino that this can be seen. He effortlessly outclasses all other actors and seems to know all the tricks of the trade in his first leading role.
The rest of the cast is also just a bit more, although Kitty Winn is not doing so badly.
The Panic In Needle Park is hopelessly dated. The lighting etc is not really correct. It's all (too) dark - although of course I understand that it is a "dark" film.
Just to do for the Pacino fans among us, best to avoid for the others.

Excellent film in which two junkies get to know each other in a park with a lot of traffic. A love drama that is overshadowed by the drug use of both. Raw, sometimes poignant and realistically portrayed without any frills (the complete lack of music, for example). Two strong roles from both Al Pacino and Kitty Winn.
