The Producers plot

"They had everything to gain by not being a success!"

New York, 1959. Max Bialystock was once a major Broadway producer, but today all of his productions are guaranteed flops. He sees his rescue in the arrival of neurotic accountant Leo Bloom, who shows him that flops can be even more lucrative than successful shows. The only condition is that the shows will be absolutely unsuccessful. In order to achieve this, the duo decides to produce the musical 'Springtime for Hitler'. That must be a flop... right?

Remake of the 1968 original by Mel Brooks is fun, but the first film remains the most fun considering Mel Brooks' corny style!!

Histeric.

That's the least you can say about this film. Strangely enough, it is precisely at those moments that the film is at its best. The caricatures are so bold and bold that it actually becomes quite funny. Ferrell who without hesitation portrays his German is quite funny.

Some of the comedy musical bits were quite fun too. The grandmothers' dance, for example, is very funny, the film could have had more of these scenes. There are also a number of actors (Broderick) who I normally can't get into, but who appear to have quite some comic talent here.

It's a pity that there are too many ordinary musical numbers that are stretched too long, and that the film as a whole is far too long anyway. Who would think of letting this go on for more than two hours? It loses its momentum a bit halfway through and there aren't enough really funny moments to keep you interested.

There aren't too many films that can justify a running time of two hours or more, and this one certainly isn't one of that select group. Missed opportunity, because there were also very nice things in it.

2.0*

The 1967 version was great in terms of humor. This remake does not reach that level. Lane plays his role with verve, facial expressions, etc., including his summary in the cell us of great class. Broderick dances happily, but it doesn't catch on, no charisma. Thurman also gives a good caricature of a Swedish woman who says hello in Croatian. Beach and Bart as the gay couple with their gay staff is well played. The entire film together is actually a parody of itself and a flop, with the offending musical Springtime actually rising above it. Ferrel overacts in his role as a former soldier. Not more entertaining than that. The most intense humor is at the end of the credits where a recommendation is made.
