"Well,.. That's just like..your opinion man"

Visited the cinema yesterday, because they play the older gems again. I estimate it's about the 15th time I've watched this movie, but this time on the big screen. And once again enjoyed and laughed a lot. The Coen brothers, renowned and loved for their absurdity, have created a brilliant film! Honestly, you either love this absurd humor or you hate it. I myself belong to the group that loves it. Brilliant in the simple fact, where it actually concerns one big misunderstanding. Wonderful one-liners, great music (his creedence tapes), great atmosphere and fantastic situations with the dude and company. A film that becomes more fun and laughable with each viewing.

Dude, dude, dude looking out my backdoor

Revised for the 5th time, added half a point!

What a wonderfully absurd film this is. The Dude is the ultimate anti-hero: lazy, unkempt, no purpose, unemployed... and yet you like him right away. His friendly attitude towards everything and everyone, and his satisfaction with his simple existence make him a kind of resting point, in the midst of all the chaos that surrounds him.

And chaos... that's enough. The muddled crime story, with new characters appearing all the time who are somehow related to it, is almost as confusing for the viewer as it is for the Dude himself. We understand his frustration, because it is also an unclear situation for us. But he keeps his cool for most of the movie, and that can only be commended in a plot like this.

Few movies have so many fun characters: Walter, Donny, Jesus to name a few. I also find Brandt, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, a hilarious character despite his small role, with his constantly uncomfortable attitude.

You must like the dry humor, but I'm really regularly laughing out loud: when the Dude tries to talk himself out of something again, when they eat hamburgers in Dude's wrecked car, the nihilists who want to settle for some change the threats from Jesus, Walter's ongoing consort about Vietnam and the way he handles the ransom situation Rambo-style.. I think it's all very funny, and can't think of a movie that easily compares to this unique film can endure.

4.5*

Best comedy of all time?

It just might be. With Bridges as the most charismatic lap swan ever and Goodman as his foul-mouthed counterpart, the foundation has been laid for a maddening adventure that makes no sense and has zero expressiveness about the world and life outside the film itself, but is deceptively ingeniously designed. in its own bubble.

The Coen brothers have a patent on amiable losers and with The Dude they may have designed their magnum opus. He lives for bowling, settles his carton of milk with a check and forgets what day it is, but his heart is in the right place. For example, he is invariably the voice of conscience towards the veteran-with-a-short-fuse Goodman, he is genuinely genuinely concerned about the fate of the kidnapped Bunny and he even visits the disfigured performance of his landlord and experimental dancer. In real life, probably despondent by being so unambitious, but irresistible on screen.

This is probably partly due to the secretly inventive way in which he and Goodman constantly provide each other and their environment with witty, unexpectedly eloquent replies: dry but witty. Just as the plot as a whole is designed, the dialogues really go in all directions and in the end it is relatively small. That's not a bad thing, because hot air has never been so contagious. And throw in an open can of eccentric supporting cast, with starring roles for Hoffman, Turturro and Buscemi, and you've got a magnificent box of nonsense that I can watch over and over with a smile.

Ultra quotable, smart and nonsense at the same time and with a strong soundtrack and unpredictable course, this is a comedy full of carefree entertainment and with infinite re-watch value. Half deduction for the dream sequences, of which the usefulness still escapes me after the umpteenth viewing. 4.5*
