Saw II plot

"Oh yes... There will be blood."

Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) investigates a gory murder and a sense that Jigsaw, the killer who left a trail of bodies and body parts, is back in action. He is soon proved right. This time, Jigsaw has not locked up two people, but as many as eight people who don't know each other and don't know what their connection is. They will only survive if they use their minds. The same goes for Matthews, for whom time is running out.

I think the whole fuss about Saw is actually quite exaggerated, it's not all that great cinema. The original still had something nice open-minded, with that morbid, sadistic serial killer. Just a pretty silly story with a sinister atmosphere. Great entertainment, nothing else wrong with it.

Part 2 also wants to continue on this path, but does not succeed in doing so. There's suddenly too much to explain, some weird theory being dragged in to justify JigSaw's murders. A pity and especially unnecessary, because it all became a bit too much nonsense for me.

And how I hate those explanatory sequences of images: at the end of a film, that really ruins it completely.

Ah 2.5*, sometimes exciting but actually superfluous and too nonsensical to talk about a valuable succession.

As expected stronger than part 1.

If you already know the concept, this part has more to offer because there are more fat kills in it. Part 1 may have been better and more shocking due to ignorance, but this part does more with it anyway.

3.5*
