Trudy works at a record store and is invited by the soldiers to their farewell party. She can't, but she's going. When she comes to her senses she is married and pregnant but doesn't know who her new husband is. A bank teller and childhood friend must marry her, under her real name, to solve the case.

Preston Sturges is at his best with this bold, for its time, satire about the double standards of the American home front during wartime. Despite the film's advanced age, whose plot teeters on the edge of the Hays Code, it's a delight to watch the antics of Eddy Bracken and William Demarest, as well as the twisted logic of the "naughty" Betty Hutton. They form a top-notch cast, complemented by Diana Lynn as the wisecracking younger sister, Emmy. Emmy's sobering scenes with her father (Demarest) are hilarious. But that last point is true for the entire film, a farce that moves along at breakneck speed and doesn't allow the viewer a moment's rest.

Found it on a Christmas list on IMDB, but it's not a true Christmas movie (except for a few scenes). It's an entertaining and lighthearted film with a lovely old-fashioned atmosphere! The going-out scenes, in particular, give a nice sense of the times.

Until then, we watch an exciting, humorous, and turbulent film that almost makes you forget that you're waiting for the miracle to be revealed.
The starting point is simple. From there, Sturges sets in motion a chain reaction of disastrous events. An escalation with nightmarish consequences for the two protagonists (played by Eddie Bracken and Betty Hutton), who do everything in their power to escape the unpleasant situation. The comic drama that unfolds is heightened by the leading role of Eddie Bracken, who, with his boyish face, clumsy maneuvers, and gullibility, becomes the film's tragic hero. A willing victim, the screenplay gloats about.
A scenario filled with chaos and confusion. It's also meticulously constructed. Every time you think the worst of the suffering is behind you, Sturges pulls another coup de grace. The film, which humorously exposes false morals and hypocrisy, simultaneously becomes an increasingly slapstick spectacle. The film completely derails a realistic scenario. However, the steps leading to this derailment are so cleverly laid out that you easily go along with it. You even see the logic in it. Clever.
