Jack Lemon and Walther Matthau are the main characters in this comedy that is actually not very funny. I have seen better work from the duo. The constellation is familiar. Matthau is the freebooter who keeps himself alive with all kinds of fraudulent practices. Lemon is the correct citizen who receives a pension after years of loyal service and leads a boring and risk-free life. Together they find themselves on a cruise ship thanks to Matthau and have funny experiences there.

Although the story's concept has comic potential, the two gentlemen fail to generate large amounts of humorous sparks. The interaction between Lemon and Matthau is listless. The wit is lacking. For example, there is a scene in which Lemon teaches Matthau to dance. In earlier times, such a scene would undoubtedly invite exuberant improvisation and result in much hilarity. Instead, the scene shows two tired-looking gentlemen who do their utmost to be funny, but whose antics do not elicit more than a smile. There are many such scenes.

It will also be partly due to the script. It is bland and seems to have been written without much creative inspiration. It seems more like they tried to make one more financial profit from the collaboration between the Grumpy Old Men without providing the grumpy old men with laughable material.

Mediocre film in which two old friends end up on a cruise ship as part of the entertainment program. The cruise ship is a great setting for this somewhat old-fashioned comedy. Although entertaining, I didn't really laugh at anything. Of course, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau remain an excellent duo, but this is certainly not their best film.
