Indiana, 1866. James Barlow, an agent of the Peterson Detective Agency, takes action against the Reno brothers, a gang of train robbers. James, incognito as an outlaw, manages to capture the trio in Seymour, where they believed they were safe because they had bribed the authorities. But the Reno brothers are now in danger of being lynched by the angry locals before James can put them under lock and key.
