“I'll probably get blamed for that.”

Great Scorsese movie. Not a mafia film or drama, but an almost screwball-like comedy at times. Afer Hours also has a sharp side, but because of all the colorful characters that Paul encounters, and the way everything always goes wrong for him, the film remains fun to watch. Scorsese knows the dark streets of New York like the back of his hand, and it also gives After Hours a somewhat dreamy atmosphere where anything can happen. At night, the strange and colorful characters appear, and Scorsese generally manages to make it a very entertaining film.

Disappointing review and one of Scorsese's least. A goofy bureaucrat ends up on a surreal night out in Soho, resulting in a series of absurd situations. He seems to be stuck in a vicious circle from which he cannot escape. All his attempts to go home are thwarted. In the meantime, he encounters all kinds of nocturnal figures, some more wacky than others. Scorsese shows a different kind of New York with the necessary humor. But I didn't get to enjoy the Kafkaesque stuff and I was disappointed with Paul Hackett : he just seemed like a stupid, sexually frustrated null.
