Vampires plot

"From the master of terror comes a new breed of evil."

The church has long known that vampires exist. It turns out that a group of vampires is looking for a powerful crucifix. It allows vampires to tolerate sunlight. That would undoubtedly spell the demise of mankind. So the Vatican secretly sends a team of vampire hunters, led by Jack Crow, to find and destroy the vampires before they find the crucifix.

Nice popcorn entertainment.

The opening scenes immediately make it clear what type of film we ended up in. At least not in a film with deeper layers in the story and in the characters. It's simple horror with an action sauce in a western setting. James Woods is the driving force. The action hero, the adventurer who, with a coarse mouth, without decency standards and using a protective layer of sarcastic humour, goes wild. Very cliché and hardly surprising. But very doable. There is nothing more to note. What you see is what you get. I liked his character. Great role.

The vampire is fairly terrifying, although at times a bit overly vicious and overly evil. His devilish appearance and ruthless character are nevertheless fine enough to present himself as a serious opponent of Woods. For someone not named Christopher Lee, he does quite well.

In another post the comparison with a western was already made. Agree. I got that feeling right from the first scene. The film feels like a western and has many features of it. The desert-like settings with dusty towns, the endless roads and the atmospheric skies above mountainous areas fit well in a western decor. Both main characters dressed in western outfits have a lot in common with the typical gunfighter and the typical bad guy. Of course there is a shootout at the end.

The action on the way to the final shootout consists of impressive skirmishes and target practice. Fine action scenes and murders where the gore is not shunned. Below that we hear very lazy temperamental blues rock in the tempo of a slow horse trot. Beautiful.

Not a great movie. Delightful atmospheric mindless pulp.

One of the best, if not the best vampire movie ever with a tough James Woods and a good solid soundtrack. I rewatch this movie almost every year just like the first From Dusk Till Dawn. An absolute must! 4.5 stars

Great movie from Carpenter. What made it even better is that Carpenter managed to camouflage himself in this in such a way that you'd rather think you're watching a Rodriguez movie... Maybe a kind of spoof of From Dusk Till Dawn.

You know from the start that it's going to make sense and that it's going to taste good. James Wood as a cunning bad-ass cowboy who, with his team, sets out to storm a barn in the middle of the desert. You know why. The brakes are immediately released and from that moment on it is clear that Vampires are just going to be a fat action manifesto. And along the way you are right too. The blood, gore, bullets are flying around your ears. Puff puff poof and vampires... It always works anyway.

But then the moment comes when Jack Crow and Antonyo have to flee with a bitten hooker. Just after a party in a motel, the entire team has been massacred by a legendary and almost unbeatable European vampire and now they must come up with a ruse. The whore Katrina seems to be a nice means because she can communicate with this certain Jan Valek through her head. This is how these vampire hunters get information to trap this Earth rival. But that is not without a struggle.

And that just makes Vampires a very enjoyable one about the top action horror in which you don't fall short and the one-liners have to do the rest. These kinds of themes also work best in the sand plains and that blues soundtrack also completes the picture here.

Nice! You are never too old for these kinds of videos

4.0*
