"Saving the world can be a trip."
Katie Mitchell dreams of a career in the film world and is thrilled when she gets accepted to the film academy. However, her father Rick thinks this is the ultimate opportunity to bring Katie and the whole family to school. As a result, mother Linda, Katie's brother Aaron and dog Monchi also accompany father and daughter. Their journey is disrupted when all technical devices worldwide fail.

Blissful movie. Thanks to the mix of 2d and 3d animation, the film looks visually unique. The humor is lightning fast which makes this one of the funniest animated films I've seen in the last few years. Not every joke hits the mark, but the joke density is so high that it is often quickly forgotten. The emotional core works surprisingly well. Mainly because of the bond between father and daughter. The message is not only that technology is bad. Both the technology companies and the old school lifestyle of the father are criticized. The cast also does a very good job for the most part, although the little brother of the family is rather clearly played by an adult. Sony animation could once again become a competitor for Pixar, much to the surprise of the viewers of the emoji film. They have made a film that is full of action and emotion, but above all very funny. A perfect movie to watch with the whole family.

Busy, noisy, nervously edited animation film with a moralistic message that is not very subtle and a sticky sentiment. So no Pixar production. It all looks nicely animated and the voice cast is decent, but the characters are on the flat side and in terms of plot there is very little to do, except for a few nice jokes. Clearly a case of style over substance, although that style is also quite disappointing here.

110 minutes, but actually there are 95. The credits took seriously fifteen minutes. The film lacks a face of its own and is a mishmash of all kinds of animation films from Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks et cetera. The film is often also very busy and screaming, something I don't like at all. A pity, because despite the few creative ideas this could have been quite an entertaining film. The voice work is okay, animation not very special but it continues, that family does have a reasonable chemistry and the first half hour is still fine. After that, however, the packing becomes less. 2.0*.
