Too bad that a well-known actor like Smith plays the lead role, in such a role with an obvious accent you're watching 'Will Smith with an accent', this unnecessarily distracts from the story. Maybe it's just me... The story is captivating; a classic David vs Goliath story. There are no surprises in that regard. The scenes with the tormented athletes are impressive and the opposition from the NFL is startling but comes across as realistic. The further impact on the sport remains vague, perhaps it will soon be covered up again.

The genre description here reads 'Biography/Sport', the blurb reads 'Thriller'. The biggest downside of the film is immediately mentioned: there is a bit of limping on two legs. Will Smith once again proves to be much more than an action hero/joke. Just like in the film Ali, he shows that he can fully immerse himself in a character. The character is also very quirky and extremely likeable. Worth a biotopic as far as I'm concerned. However, the makers apparently (also?) had in mind a thriller à la The Insider, but the tension is simply not enough for that. While I don't want to downplay what happened to Omalu and his wife, I think it's too thin for a movie to be cast in the mold of a thriller.

This does not alter the fact that this is very worthwhile: for the story, for the character Omalu and for the portrayal by Smith. In the credits I had hoped for some more figures and facts: life expectancy of NFL players, measures taken in response to this history, dip in popularity of the NFL? etc.

Fascinating film with a strong role by Will Smith. The accent didn't bother me at all, it seemed convincing to me, and it gave the main character of the film a very different look than the characters that Will Smith usually plays.
