The Rocky francise is part of my childhood memories as far as movies are concerned. Creed is now a perfect spin-off on that. This movie may have less effect if you don't know the Rocky movies, but for me it's kind of like coming home. Rocky has to admit for the first time that he too can't stand the test of time. He kindly thanks as a sparring partner. There are also many other aspects that show this. In the film he also calls 'old man'. Rocky is getting old, and so are his fans... Spoiler: the film ends with a scene on the legendary stairs where he says he will see all his life. It perfectly expresses what I feel. Where the first film dates from '76, we are now 40 years later... As a viewer I am many years further in life... Very good film if you liked the Rocky films. The atmosphere of that time is perfectly taken over. Perhaps the start of a new series of films. Though I have to admit that without Sylvester Stallone, the movie wouldn't have had the same magic on me. For me it is not a spin-off but a sequel where the action hero of yesteryear now takes on the role of an old teacher. Recommended for lovers of the genre and chapeau for Sylvester who dares to be vulnerable but ultimately does not let it...

OK.

In the end, it didn't quite turn out as I had hoped. In fact, it's really just a rerun of the original. Only with other characters, in which this time the son of Apollo Creed is in the spotlight, who has been played convincingly enough by Jordan.

Jordan is a good actor and knows how to give his role color. Sometimes a little too busy, but otherwise I have little to say. Stallone doesn't play as stupidly fun as in the original anymore, but still has enough sense and charisma to play his part. Nice that he also accepts that he has become a day older.

For the rest, Coogler didn't put too much creativity into the story. Cliché after cliché succeed each other. This mixed with the original makes it all too predictable to really enjoy it. Coogler hasn't gone to too much trouble to put even more creativity into it, other than adding some more detail in iterations of the original.

What does stand out is the boxing fights themselves. For example, the first fight somewhere in the middle that was shot in 1 take was very impressive. The final phase is also worth mentioning, and they know how to fully strengthen your attention. It's great to see it like that, so you can see that Coogler can indeed direct well.

Takes a long time, but there is still enough pace to make the 133 minutes pass quickly.

I didn't think the protagonist was bad, but he has more of a baby face than a boxer face. Also, he is not at all as interesting as the character Rocky Balboa. The rest of the characters weren't that interesting either, except for the boxer from Liverpool.

Rocky Balboa, aka Sylvester Stallone saves this movie. He plays a more vulnerable role for once and that suits him surprisingly well. Without Stallone, there isn't much left of this film.
