"Don't Hold Back ...Don't Give Up."
Terri Fletcher (Hilary Duff) is a young girl from a small town who has only one wish: to become a pop star. Against her father's wishes, Terri travels to Los Angeles to train at a famous music school. That's where the problems really start. As a village girl, Terri has to survive in the big city and at school there is mainly rivalry between the girls, who all dream of becoming pop singers. To make matters worse, Terri also falls in love with the prettiest boy in school.

Everything is so cliché. And true, most of it has been used before.. but despite that I thought it was a very cute video. I still give this movie a warm heart, mainly because at the time, in 2004, I fell in love with both Duff and James in one fell swoop. But there is indeed more than just looking at a couple of handsome faces. (Even Sloan thought I was cute!) The music wasn't bad either. Here and there a hit from Duff, but also enough Maroon 5 and Keane. (Think of the emotional We Might As Well Be Strangers)
Yes, this is just fun.

Well, it may be a teen movie, but the (second) review still whines just as hard as when I was a teenager. A film has to have pretty strong elements if it succeeds. Not on a first viewing, then I quickly wipe away a tear, but it doesn't happen so quickly during a review.
So is the movie perfect? No, far from it. It is all predictable and nowhere is that little bit extra given, all fixed parts are discussed. In that respect, this film has played it safe, but the execution is good. Now I must confess that as a teenager I was a big fan of Duff and still listen to her old songs regularly. As a fan, you came across this film quite nicely with the number of songs it entails.
Still, now that I haven't been a fan for years, this is still one of her best films, including one of her most beautiful songs: Someone's Watching over Me. That song still gives me goosebumps after all these years, and that doesn't happen that quickly either.
The drama takes over in the film, here and there it is kept light. At times I thought it was a bit too much of a good thing about the drama Actually, the whole kiss between Jay and Robin could have been left out. I saw absolutely no added value in this and it also detracts a bit from the seriousness that this film tries to bring.
Despite the few minor criticisms, this film still gets away with 4*.

This umpteenth spin-off of Fame (1980) is in itself a meritorious film and, despite the numerous clichés, offers quite a pleasant pastime thanks to the enthusiastic cast .
