Annoying third part with misplaced humor and a Pryor who is not feeling well. Bad.

Superman III (originally titled Superman vs. Superman) is a sequel to Superman II (1980). The lead role is once again played by Christopher Reeve.

In the film we see Clark Kent, who falls in love with his childhood friend Lana Lang. Meanwhile, as Superman, he puts out a major fire at a petrochemical plant and prevents a massive hurricane from destroying Colombia's coffee plantations. This is to the dismay of billionaire Ross Webster, who wants to conquer the world by taking control of the entire world's supply of coffee. So he wants to destroy Superman, and he enlists a computer expert (a completely miscast Richard Pryor) to manufacture a piece of kryptonite. This makes Superman so upset that he first becomes depressed and then turns into a selfish bastard. He erects the Tower of Pisa, blows out the Olympic Flame and sinks an oil tanker. Finally, we are treated to a surreal fight between Superman and Clark Kent at a junkyard.

Do you still follow it all? I no longer do. The film is clearly less than its predecessors, although those weren't exactly cinematic highlights either. The movie is pretty bland and childish, and the bad guys in the movie aren't as strong as in the first two movies. In addition, Richard Pryor's slapstick scenes are completely out of place in a superhero movie, and it was rightly nominated for a razzy for worst supporting actor. 2*

I used to think this movie was underrated, but after reviewing it turns out to be nonsense. After a whirlwind start, it takes a very long time before things get going. Pryor there is in itself a find, as is Vaugn as a bad guy, but both are given little to really make something of it. Some nice scenes, but much of the film is below average and downright boring.
