"Some people can never believe in themselves, until someone believes in them."

Will Hunting (Matt Damon) works as a janitor at MIT and spends the rest of his days mostly fighting and getting around the law, despite having a genius-level intellect for mathematics. A teacher wants to develop this talent at all costs, but soon notices that Will is quite upset with himself and his environment. The only ones who can help him are Sean McGuire (Robin Williams), a psychologist who admires and tries to understand the young genius, and Skylar (Minnie Driver), a medical student who is in love with Will. Will they be able to bring Will out of his isolation?

“You'll have bad times, but it'll always wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying attention to.”

This is still a brilliant movie. Damon and Affleck's script is very strong and I can't praise the acting enough. Damon is as strong as the brilliant Will who has built a wall and makes little of his life. The strongest point of the film is the interplay between the incomparable Williams and Damon.

When Professor Lambeau (Skarsgard) finds out that Will is a math genius with some problems, Will ends up with psychiatrist Sean Maguire (Williams). I can talk long and short but the conversations between Williams and Damon are brilliant. It's exciting, emotional, humorous, profound and I could watch it for hours. The conversation outside on a bench and the "It's not your fault" speech stand out of course, but it's all fascinating. Minnie Driver is touching and very strong as Will's friend who gradually finds out that Will has some bigger problems after all. than she initially suspected. I found the ending moving and Will's decision is certainly understandable and actually beautiful. This quote from Affleck has always stuck with me: “Every day I come by your house and I pick you up. And we go out. We have a few drinks, and a few laughs, and it's great. But you know what the best part of my day is? For about ten seconds, from when I pull up to the curb and when I get to your door, 'cause I think, maybe I'll get up there and I'll knock on the door and you won't be there. No goodbye. No see you later. No nothing. You just left. I don 't know much, but I know that.” … Goosebumps.

Too bad about the huge clichés and the predictability, but a nice film nonetheless. He's also super annoyingly American. The big American dream. A hopeless person who uses his talents. baseball. Decorating girls. Drink. And then Harvard and the professors who made it or not. What does it matter. As long as it works for a good story. Apply for a great job or not. After the girl. And so on and so on ......... And yet the story builds up interestingly enough, despite the fact that from the beginning it is certain how it will end and how unbelievable everything is. And above all it is very well acted. I hope I never see the film again, because it's all too terrible for words, the longer I think about it and reevaluate the film. This movie shouldn't get such a high rating from me.

revised. Young faces here from everyone involved, but otherwise the film has stood the test of time gloriously. Damon and Affleck's Oscar-winning script is irresistible, as are the characters. Not all scenes work equally well; for example, the application from Affleck, who shows up instead of Damon, is too bland and out of place, but other than that the film runs like a well-oiled machine. And how good are Damon and Williams here. The crucial emotional scenes still hit hard due to their completely convincing playing.
