Play two icons from classic horror films, Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff, against each other. Then you expect fireworks. Well, for me it was a loose bag. First of all, I didn't really think this was a horror. Second, I wondered why this was called "The Black Cat" as this beast didn't really play a major role (other than the fact that Bela is terrified of it). Apart from Karloff's frightening gaze, the story can only be called meager. Switching bedrooms even had something slapstick-like in my eyes. No, this was a minor setback. Luckily it was a short video.

2*

hmm.

I can actually keep it exceptionally short about this film, The Black Cat couldn't get me anywhere. But really nowhere at all. I'm guessing it's even hard to call this movie a true horror movie, despite the fact that the name is now well known among the horror classics. I could only yawn about it myself.

Despite some big names and a rather intriguingly arranged setting, I could never care about where the story was going. We get quite a few elements thrown at us, but after yet another uninteresting dialogue I was just waiting for the film to finally stop with all that nonsense. I also thought it was quite a shame that the house is rarely used properly, apart from some nice shadow scenes.

Sorry, but no. This film absolutely couldn't get me anywhere and the finale didn't do much for me either. I am at peace with the fact that this film is appreciated by many film lovers, but do not expect that I will ever return to this film. Guess I forgot the whole movie within 12 hours, because it really didn't bother me at all.
