Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy plot

"They bring you the news so you don't have to get it yourself."

Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) is one of the most famous newscasters in San Diego in the 1970s. The first female newsreaders make their appearance; one of them is the ambitious Veronica Corningstone (Applegate). Ron is willing to give Veronica broadcasts in the field of 'woman interest'; including fashion and cooking. But when Veronica refuses to be the 'apple' of the station's eye, she goes to present the news anyway; the beginning of a long struggle...

Wonderful humour.

A very comical film with Will Ferrell, who can conjure up all his jokes and pranks as a newscaster who is jealous of his girlfriend's success. Steve Carell secretly steals the show, but anyway there are some nice supporting roles in the film that provide a few gems of skits. There can be great bellowing for the nice and bland, flat and bizarre humor. Includes a talking dog and a version of Starland Vocal Band's hit 'Afternoon Delight', which easily surpasses the original.

Very good.

Add half.

I haven't seen the film in its entirety, but I do notice that I miss these kinds of films very much these days. Pure comedies without much bullshit in the margins. From start to finish everything is one big joke, there is just no room for unnecessary drama or other things. You just don't see movies like that anymore.

Over the years I have come to appreciate some of the actors here a bit more. Ferrell among others, but certainly also Carell, whom I absolutely couldn't stand at the time. I also noticed how quotable this movie is and how much of it has stuck with me. Many memorable scenes and moments, some of which have become cultural heritage ("I love lamp").

Mno, as far as I'm concerned they are putting the dramadies back on the ice for a while and there will be more of these kinds of films. Where a lot of comedians come together and just do 90 minutes as over the top and silly as possible. I can appreciate it in the meantime.

3.5*

Entertaining comedy with some absurd sides, which has quite a few funny moments to offer throughout the ninety minutes. For the most part not on a hilarious level, but there is certainly a lot to laugh about. I'm usually not the biggest fan of Ferrell, but he puts down a successful character here in the form of Ron Burgundy. But without a doubt, the entire cast is fantastic, and definitely the best aspect of the movie. Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner are fantastic as the group of friends around Burgundy, but also the recurring role of Vince Vaughn or the random cameos of Ben Stiller and Jack Black are funny. The humor is sometimes situational, but mainly comes from the funny lyrics and acting of the cast. It's also a big and nice plus that Anchorman is incredibly straightforward, and that director McKay just goes full for a simple humorous story, without wanting to do much more. Since the later sequel has almost completely the same cast, I will certainly give it a chance soon, because it is really mainly the actors who know how to make a nice and funny whole. 3.5*.
