Horror lovers should enjoy this: Price, Lorre and Rathbone in one movie, albeit in three different EA Poe stories.

Vinvent Prince is in all three and is the leader, but Peter Lorre is delightful as an unseemly wine drinker and Basil Rathbone is also excellent as a mysterious hypnotist.

Love, desire and revenge are pretty much the common thread in an enjoyable piece of fantasy and horror world.

Once again a very successful Corman film adaptation of a number of Poe stories/poems.
Price manages to shine in the first story. Furthermore, his daughter doesn't do too badly either and they manage to create a good atmosphere of fear towards the end.
The second story is yet another film adaptation of 'The Black Cat'. Yet Corman manages to make his own version of it, because this is the first film adaptation I know of that has so much comedy in it.
Peter Lorre is almost cartoonish and then Price with his wine tasting. The way he does that is quite funny. The humor won't be everyone's cup of tea.
I personally think the last story is the strongest. The filmmaker succeeds in making the viewer sympathize with the characters and Basil Rathbone plays a convincingly evil person.
The same sets are used here and there (probably for budgetary reasons), but it is mainly the actors and actresses that make this film so good. Highly recommended for fans of the Corman-Price Poe films.

A great triptych that I had had in my DVD cabinet for years and had always overlooked - I noticed when I looked back at my collection of films with Vincent Price.

The first of the three stories is a nice introduction, which confirms the image that Price is an actor 'in horror films where everything goes up in flames at the end' - haha: often yes, indeed!

The second is a gem, with a drunken role that seems tailor-made for Peter Lorre. What a fantastic combination he is with Price. Wonderful, the humor in the wine tasting. Was a bit reminiscent of the wizard's duel in The Raven, in which Price and Lorre starred together again a year after this film.

And the third story... Dying under hypnosis... Bizarre idea and wonderfully developed. A showdown in which Price and Basil Rathbone push each other to great heights.

With Price and Poe as connecting factors, this is an extremely atmospheric production.
