"Every second counts in the adventure of a lifetime!"
During an investigation into the murder of 2 ministers, Colonel Scudder of the British Secret Service takes refuge in Richard Hannay's apartment. Scudder has discovered an assassination attempt on the Greek Prime Minister during his visit to London. Meanwhile, the agents responsible for the first 2 murders are looking for Scudder. Scudder, meanwhile, is looking for Hannay in Scotland. Here he is stabbed by the officers and Hannay is arrested on suspicion of murder. Hannay escapes from detention, meets David Hamilton and Alexandra MacKenzie along the way, and is charged with another murder. They try to help Hannay prove his innocence.
