Bob Harris and Charlotte are two Americans in Tokyo. Bob is a movie star who temporarily resides in Japan for a whiskey commercial, while young Charlotte is swept away by her overworked photographer husband. When they can't sleep one night, Bob and Charlotte meet in the luxurious hotel bar. This chance meeting quickly degenerates into a surprising friendship and Charlotte and Bob decide to discover Tokyo together.

This is just such a horribly lifelike movie. So fragile, so breakable. 2 people who understand each other even without words. That's a beautiful thing. I thought it was a very pleasant film to watch and I don't have to add much to what Zwolle and IH88 write above. I don't really think it's a movie to cry about, but it's a feeling I can hardly describe. Kind of sad, yes. The film certainly has a few funny bits and a nice, understated soundtrack. I wasn't expecting anything from this but I'm still pretty blown away.

Still a movie gem for me. Review this one on TV and continue to like the story. Two people each with their relationship problems. One married 2 years and the other 25. And yet they find each other. Knowing that there is nothing more than friendship, they balance the line between moving on or not. Setting is the hotel bar. As someone just described: fragile, fragile and yet so recognisably realistic. That's what I look for in an original movie story. You have to be in the right mood to digest this film and be open to what some will find boring. Film should mainly rely on the atmosphere, dialogue and setting...

I really enjoy this movie.
I like to see Murray play anyway, and Scarlett Johansson proves to be a perfect opponent here.
It is a quiet and modest story that takes place in the bar of a hotel on the one hand, and in the nightlife of Tokyo on the other.
Despite the modesty, there is a constant tension between the main characters, which continues to sizzle in the air until the last scene.
It's also fantastic how recognizable the film is, even though I don't really have anything personal with the story. But in the doubts and thoughts of the leading roles I could always recognize something of myself.
Subtle support with music and beautiful camera work complete the picture.
