Danny is a slave. He has spent his whole life without any kind of education and therefore has the development of a child. Danny is treated like a dog by his owner Bart and has to fight for him in illegal fighting matches. When Bart ends up in a coma after a car accident, Danny ends up with the blind pianist Sam, who takes him in and shows him the pleasant sides of life.

Funny picture that mainly reminds me of a contemporary version of Soldier. Here too it is about a person who, through heavy training, has become an ultimate, human watchdog or fighting machine. Once put aside as rubbish, he is taken in by a loving community who then have to teach him some emotions and human behavior. The difference is that Kurt Russell is just a big muscle and Jet Li is a little martial arts prodigy. Danny The Dog is a fun action film with a nice urban setting and a nice, surprising interaction between Jet Li and Morgan Freeman. Li has good action scenes, but that's where it ends. In any case, it's entertaining.

Weird.
And I mean the whole idea, because I hadn't the faintest idea what to expect. Unleashed is a bit of everything due to the mishmash of different character types and genres. A martial arts male enslaved by a cockney mobster who looks like something out of a Guy Ritchie movie who is 'liberated' by piano music and a Ray Charles-esque mentor. It is certainly original and it provides a rather positive view.
Jet Li can act quite well, but I find him more enjoyable as an unhinged dog in which he can show all his tricks. Morgan Freeman is also doing his 'trick' again, albeit that I am getting more and more tired of him and his mentor role.
Bob Hoskins is then the one who steals the show as the grimacing gangster boss.
The drama part is a bit flat and also the denouement in which Danny remembers that his owner killed his mother is on the cliché side, also in terms of effect. The action scenes entertained me the most. It's not all that great, it lacks originality and dynamics, but such a vinning brawler always looks good.

Slightly less on revision. The cast is quite predictable with Jet Li as the fighter, Bob Hoskins as the bad guy and Morgan Freeman in yet another variation as an older mentor figure. In terms of combat, it's not that much special, although Jet Li does know how to trump a lot of bad guys. Director Louis Leterrier had previous success with The Transporter which he made with Corey Yuen, a director who has made 6 Jet Li films. He's not there at Unleashed.
Unleashed is not a bad movie and does better than your average western martial arts movie. In addition to the battles, we get another pleasant story. If you look at the names behind the scenes who also contributed to The Transporter (writer Luc Besson, cinematography by Pierre Morel, director Louis Leterrier) I could have done better.
