Teacher Johnny Smith has a horrific accident that puts him in a coma for five years. When he wakes up from the coma, he appears to have the gift of seeing someone's future through the touch of that person. The police like to use Johnny's gift in an unsolved murder case. But soon these special powers get Johnny in trouble.

I think The Dead Zone is a pretty good movie.
This movie has a mysterious story. A man ends up in a coma after a serious accident. After 5 years, he awakens and can predict the future of people. A very interesting story. Especially towards the end when the man can prevent a kind of Hitler-like figure from coming to power is very interesting. The ending of this movie is quite exciting.
The acting in this movie is good. I especially liked Christopher Walken in this film. He portrays a mysterious person who sometimes even comes across as a bit scary. Still, Walken manages to make Johnny a sympathetic character. The rest of the cast clearly does less than Walken, but everyone acts properly.
The film is a bit long-winded at times, but it could have been a bit more fast-paced. The music comes from Michael Kamen. For this film he comes up with very good dark music. It certainly makes the film more mysterious.
All in all, a pretty good movie. But this is not a real topper. As mentioned, the pace is a bit too slow and some parts of the film are also a bit boring, but this is still a decent film.
3.5 stars for this movie.

As stated above, clearly more of a King movie than a Cronenberg movie. Especially a very straightforward film adaptation of the story, while the story could have been a lot more fascinating with some simple more idiosyncratic choices. A film that further reminded me of old video stores and the month of May at the public broadcaster that Veronica still was. That was nice. Also with one scene that really should have been out of the movie in which Stillson blackmails the columnist That pat is bad in the movie and the movie would have been a bit better without it. Not bad, helped by an excellent casting.
