"A dangerous romance"

Ed Okin's life doesn't run smoothly. He suffers from insomnia, his wife cheats on him and his job is boring. This is the start of a nighttime chase by four angry Arabs.

Excellent film in which a man with insomnia has a wild night when he helps a woman in need. A well-functioning mix of comedy, thriller and action. Entertaining developments and sometimes a bit quirky. The nighttime atmosphere is excellently portrayed here. Lots of fun cameos from directors and Playboy bunnies. The funniest role is for director John Landis himself.

Mediocre.

At times amusing, but also extremely outdated. The story does try to be sharp here and there (with murders and such), but the crazy crooks are more like a comic strip by Suske & Wiske. The film bounces back and forth between those two ideas.

Goldblum and Pfeiffer are still doing quite well, the rest of the cast is a lot less. Nice to have some directors and artists show up, but if they can't act properly then it's not really necessary. That also applies to Landis, by the way.

The story moves along nicely, but it doesn't really interest you. For that, the idea in the meantime is just a little mature. The whole crime/thriller element just doesn't amount to much anymore, the comedy is mostly too good. What remains is a decent but fairly tame film, nice for once but soon forgotten.

2.0*

1 of those famous movies from the 80s that I never saw (I think). Usually you should not watch such films these days, this one seems to me to be one of them.

Typical Landis 80s vehicle with a lot of famous headlines and that atmosphere from that time which is always nice.

But otherwise a bit not a comedy and just not a thriller and actually not much of anything.

Also from the time when the US was still happy with the deposed Shah in Iran and his crazy accomplices, they have come back to that quite a bit later . Nota bene Irene Pappas as Iranian and an extremely weird role of Bowie.

Returning BB King music is nice.

Also reminiscent of eg After Hours and other films from that time with an ordinary idiot who suddenly gets caught up in all kinds of intrigue and tension. Was quite popular back then.
