The Uprising plot

During the English Peasants' Revolt of 1381, the humble Wat Tyler rises to become the leader of the resistance against the young King Richard II. With an army of ordinary citizens, he takes on the troops of the Crown in a battle for justice and survival. His actions make him a legendary symbol of resistance.

A decent historical drama. The partly true story is quite nice, but in terms of execution, it is fairly clichéd and comparable to many genre counterparts. The first part of the film could have had more depth and feels somewhat rushed. The middle section is a bit duller. The final quarter, however, makes up for a lot and is quite exciting. The ending, with a nod to Robin Hood, is quite cleverly conceived. Visually, it is nicely filmed with beautiful settings and sets and typical Greengrass camerawork, making it feel as if you are right in the middle of it as a viewer. The acting is otherwise excellent, with a good, believable performance by Garfield. 3.0/3.5
