De Diefte plot
Down-on-his-luck and struggling sixty-year-old Hubert Verhoeven embarks on a quest to trace his family tree. He contacts Isabelle Trio, Wetteren's archivist, to find his answers. This leads him to his grandfather, Emiel, who was the sacristan at St. Gertrude's Church in Wetteren during the years of the theft. Through a diary, Hubert uncovers the events of that time, hoping to recover the missing panel depicting the Righteous Judges. The film tells the story of the notorious theft of two panels of the Ghent Altarpiece from St. Bavo's Cathedral in Ghent during the night of April 10-11, 1934.
