This documentary delves deeper into the secrets surrounding the Neanderthals. They were an extinct human species or subspecies closely related to modern humans and lived in Europe and Asia from about 400,000 years BC to about 40,000 years BC. I found this documentary particularly interesting - we all pretty much have it in our heads that the Neanderthals were little more than upright walking apes, but that turns out to be quite far from reality. For example, they lived not only in the Neander Valley, but spread throughout Europe and Asia Minor, there are all kinds of mysterious indications of rituals and forms of society, they had quite complicated techniques at their disposal for that time, and were there for a long time. time contacts with the 'normal' H. Sapiens up to and including crosses between the species, and certainly not sporadically - we all still have between 1-4% Neanderthal DNA in us. Quite different from what was told in my school days - that it was a completely different species. Perhaps the Netherlands in particular is lagging behind in science in this area - I noticed that one of the relevant articles on Wikipedia is available in 14 languages, but not in Dutch. Well, I often have the impression that the Dutch live up to what the Neanderthals get their name from.

Extra fun also because of Patrick Stewart's pleasant voice to talk it all together. Actually, that alone is worth it.
