Yellow Door: '90s Lo-fi Film Club plot

An ode to the golden age of Korean cinephilia, this documentary invites viewers to return to the passionate days of young film lovers who paved the way for the Korean cinematographic renaissance. The 1990s saw an explosion of film clubs on Korean campuses, providing young students with a creative outlet and a platform to study the art of cinema. The Yellow Door Film Club was one of them. The film chronicles the memories of the members, including director Lee Hyuk-rae, and offers a rare glimpse into their cinematic journey and their impressions of the first short film by now well-known filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.

Nice Korean documentary, especially worth it because of the time it portrays of the 1990s. At the time, the Yellow Door Film Club (featuring director Bong Joon-Ho) was busy building a collection of hard-to-obtain Western film classics. The stories are infectious and the love for film is tangible. It's also nice how Joon-Ho tells how crazy he was about the work of Francis Ford Coppola, only to have the opportunity to meet him at a film festival years later. It takes some time and the Korean sense of humor is sometimes a bit lame, but ultimately this is an entertaining, sympathetic documentary.
