From 1947 to 1948, the Einsatzgruppen trial took place in Nuremberg, one of the largest murder trials in history against members of four death squads. During World War II, two million Jews were killed in systematic mass shootings. The perpetrators stood face to face with their victims. They shot at men, women and children - day after day, obediently and diligently, as if it were normal work. Tens of thousands of Germans from the Nazi police were involved. Film addresses what I - and many others - have always wondered: How is it possible that so many hundreds of thousands of Germans actually helped with the Holocaust.
Various situations and circumstances are highlighted: the efforts of motivated people, Jew-haters, Nazi supporters and the recruitment of ordinary citizens for police forces working in the camps.
