"Every story has an origin."
In the town of Abaddon, there is a hotel with a terrifying past surrounding a demon guarding the gateway to hell. However, it is not the only building where something remarkable has happened. In the 1980s, several murders took place at the Carmichael mansion. Murders that were never solved. A group of researchers went there, but after four nights nothing was heard from them. Their investigation has been filmed and the images may be more disturbing than that of the Abaddon hotel.

Director Stephen Cognetti achieved success with his debut film, but since then has basically done nothing but expand the same series over and over again. The most exciting parts of the LLC event revolved around the haunted house attraction, but that aspect is completely left out with this so-called Origins film. In addition, I personally hardly think it is an origin story, because this film also focuses on a team that simply tries to look a little deeper into the complete backstory with brief glimpses of the past in between. However, with the extra material that is shown around this film, it is a great mystery how there are any aspects to investigate at all, everything seems to have been explained to me now. Cognetti, with his fourth film in the series, has quite a bit of trouble getting things exciting. Constantly leaning on that clown doll is clearly starting to take its toll and the new threats hardly create any tension. It basically delivers a new addition to the series without any highlights. The acting is more than decent and the documentary-like approach remains a hit, but perhaps it is time for Cognetti to do something different than breathe new life into the same series over and over again.

Better than the 2nd part.
The film looks like some kind of documentary about 2 ladies who go to the Carmichael Manor to solve a murder. Well, actually Margot would like to go there, also because it is most likely haunted. Her friend Rebecca actually only comes along for her. Once they arrive, Margot's little brother Chase also joins the couple. The three of them try to find out what happened to part of the family, but soon strange things start happening.
I liked the build-up. 2 people who talk about Margot, Rebecca and Chase and also about the past of the Carmichaels. In between we see found footage images of the trio and later also of the Carmichaels. The house they stayed in wasn't necessarily scary, but those 3 clowns make it scary. Of course you remember it from the first 2 parts, so it's nothing new, but it's been a while since I saw part 2.
I was a bit annoyed by Margot who wanted to stay despite everything and seemed obsessed with the murders. I left after the first night. Unfortunately, you don't see much of what happened to the trio. You see a little bit of Chase, but nothing else. I don't think the budget was big enough for that. Nevertheless, it was a fun experience.

Strange that this series has such a loyal fan base because Hell House LLC is third-rate horror. Unless you happen to have a clown phobia, this Origins: The Carmichael Manor is no different. Old image quality using Windows Movie Maker, jump scares from Action and three stage actors with a handycam talking to each other. It was certainly not scarier than Killer Klowns from Outer Space, but it was a lot worse.
