Beautiful film with a wonderful role by Vicky Krieps. "Not about death, but about living in the final phase" (quote Emily Atef). I've seen quite a few movies with Vicky Krieps pretty much unnoticed, but after Corsage and now this one she really stands out to me as an incredibly good actress. Gaspard Ulliel (unfortunately died in an accident, very tragic!) also plays well. All emotions from both sides were understandable and very well portrayed. The way Hėlène gasped after an effort looked so frighteningly good that it (so to speak) made me feel short of breath. The last half hour of the movie is really brilliant.

Hélène [Vicky Krieps] is seriously ill and can only be ridden if a donor is identified in time. Husband Matthieu [Gaspard Ulliel] clings to that hope, but Hélène doesn't want that anymore. She secretly contacts the Norwegian blogger Mister [Bjørn Floberg], who lost his wife to the same illness and decides to spend some time with Mister to come to herself. A gloomy drama with the emotional expressions to be expected, with moody musical motives and beautiful pictures of the Norwegian environment. The cast makes the best of it, but the screenplay is slow and predictable.

I am now old enough to have lost several people in my circle, and as it happens, it is partly due to debilitating illnesses and the associated medical suffering. When you see that happen, the first thought is obvious - 'if things ever go wrong with me, I certainly don't want that to happen'. Well, if you're faced with that choice, it's different, I'm afraid.

That is precisely why this is such an impressive film, the integrity with which the subject is presented is beautifully worked out brilliantly, Krieps plays a masterful role with a completely convincing decay, opposite her boyfriend / husband who has difficulty accepting her choices and cannot deal with the changes that also affect him. All very human and very recognizable, empathetic and fleshed out to the bone. I do hope with all my heart that when the time comes, I will be strong and brave enough to choose something other than the longest, at any cost.

In the aforementioned quote from Atef, 'not about death, but about life in the final phase', and with that the ending is also perfectly fitting, right. It is beyond distressing that it is Ulliel who is no longer with us. Yet a very absurd confrontation with the arbitrariness of the time that is granted to us.
