Incredible, rather annoying drama about the relationship between a professional dominatrix (Margaret Qualley) and a wealthy client of hers (Christopher Abbott). Both characters do not come out of the picture and the dialogues feel rather forced and theatrical. A feeling that is reinforced by the fact that the entire film takes place in a hotel room. Gradually I started to get really tired of these two people.

Kinda meh.

Film adaptations of a stage usually don't work very well, and this is another fine example of that, although I also wonder whether I would have done this piece better in the theater. The idea is a bit far-fetched, and there is just one too many twists and turns - perhaps necessary to keep it remotely interesting, but it doesn't help to silence the nagging voice in the back of my mind. There are better films about unusual relationships, and even if a leading role in them has to be for some CEO.

The big problem is that almost nothing comes through from the leading roles - and even why exactly they need each other. People talk about it, but it isn't - it doesn't come across, it doesn't get any depth, it doesn't feel. What could this idea have been like in the hands of one of the old French master directors, I think somewhat unfairly.

Qualley plays quite well, it's a shame it's not in a more interesting film - although it's definitely appreciated that she chooses this kind of production instead of something like the predictable main stream MCL dredge. On the other hand, I hadn't noticed Abbott before, even though I've already seen a few of his films. And I'm afraid I'll soon forget this role.
