Among lowly Hallmark productions, director Dustin Rikert's imaginative Christmas comedy is about as high as you can get, as no production from this company will be considered "great." It is mainly nice that Rikert does not fall into the typical villain characters, but continues to portray everyone as sympathetic and understanding. This makes the more emotional moments work a little better and Lyndsy Fonseca is very solid in her role. The progression is extremely predictable and for a film with this content there is too little atmospheric magic, but fortunately it doesn't take long to get to the core. There are several complicated problems that the characters have to deal with, but Rikert approaches them with enough respect and nuance. The visuals are never memorable and not a single scene moved me, but I must admit that I ended the film with a smile on my face. Too little emotional connection towards the finale prevents me from awarding the film a passing grade.
