Martin Eden plot
Martin Eden is a sailor and labourer, who has only completed primary school. One day he saves a rich boy from a beating and is invited to the Orsini family. There he meets the refined daughter of the house, Elena, with whom he falls in love. Martin wants to lift himself out of his own milieu and become a writer. The stories he writes are about the Italian underclass. Can Martin Eden find a publisher willing to publish it and convince Elena's family that he is worthy of her?
