Film that is closely linked to the series (which I didn't see).

You notice this immediately from the start, with the many characters making allusions to past situations, sometimes accompanied by a brief flashback.

I attempted to overcome that handicap and managed quite well, so that I ultimately saw a decent, albeit somewhat small, western with the classic ingredients, from violence to emotion, from right to wrong, sometimes a somewhat caricatured character, a touch of humor, well-developed and convincingly acted.

I am not really into series, so I haven't seen this one. It seems to me that this is a handicap when appreciating this film.

I must say that the setting looks authentic. However, I didn't find the story great, partly because I couldn't always quite place the relationships between the various characters.

All in all, the film did entertain me, but I'm not exactly thrilled.

Yeah.

I have never seen the series. Still, this adaptation isn't really difficult to follow. I can well believe that you miss a lot of details, but thanks to the use of not-so-subtle flashbacks in the first half hour, it is clear how things stand between a number of characters. However, I am not a fan of those flashbacks. It makes this film look too much like a reunion episode. A kind of fan service, when they would have been better off just trying to make a really good film. It remains quite flat, and the storyline of the powerful politician who wants to buy up a piece of land primarily to benefit himself economically doesn't really get off the ground. I would have liked it to be a lot more exciting.

2.5
