I also had the above idea, but this film was a lot better quality than most Hallmark films. Just the acting performances, which are often very sad at Hallmark. Everything went well with this movie. It doesn't really stand out anywhere, but everyone is doing fine.

There are references here and there to Christmas and the atmosphere, but in terms of story it could just as well have been set in the middle of summer. In any case, it is not a film that I would really save for Christmas. The story is well told and even surprises at some points. I find the latter quite unique in this day and age, where the story is often mapped out from start to finish after the first minute. Okay, of course you don't have to be a genius to see where this movie eventually goes, but in the meantime they manage to come up with some nice twists.

It won't be a movie that goes on my regular list of Christmas movies to watch every year, but it's definitely not a movie that I will never watch again.

“Who are you, and what are you doing in my palace?”

Nice Christmas little thing. It's predictable, sentimental and very, very sweet, but putting on this kind of film in December puts you in the right Christmas spirit. McIver is also a sympathetic leading lady and especially the interplay with the young Kneafsey produces nice scenes. Lamb is a lot less on track, and the romantic part doesn't really work. That's important in these kinds of movies.

A Christmas Prince is a Christmas movie from the American streaming service Netflix. And as several here have already noted, Netflix is borrowing a bit from the American TV channel Halmark Entertainment. Because A Christmas Prince would not have been out of place in Halmark's oeuvre, where family morals and romance form a strong theme.

You can describe the film a bit as “Cinderella at Christmas”. Rose McIver plays an American journalist who travels for an article to the fictional country of Aldovia, where a handsome prince is about to be crowned king. Of course the prince is single and falls in love with an ordinary journalist. And at the end they all live happily ever after.

For originality or good acting performances, you often don't have to go to an average Christmas movie. Here too it is all a bit too slick. The locations of the royal castle are of course beautiful, but unfortunately the film manages to impress less in terms of content. The couple Rose McIver and Ben Lamb lack chemistry and the bad guys of the story are unfortunately a bit overdone. Not a hit from Netflix, but the film was successful enough to get a sequel a year later: A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.
