Very successful. Starts slow, but gradually gets more intense. It's great that you can make such a fascinating film from such a simple fact. Almost a masterclass from the director, who seems to play a bit with the viewer, sometimes deliberately making holes in the narration, for example or introducing characters quite extensively only to have them abruptly disappear from the storyline. Like his previous film, the violent adrenaline rush Brawl in Cell Block 99 is very hard and at times very brutal. Not to everyone's taste, no doubt, but made with guts and vision. Dialogues are often wonderful, sometimes too good to be true and not really realistic, but who cares?, we do want to believe in this. Recommended for the not too delicate souls.

Indeed a slowburner that occasionally revived, contained good humor and... well, not much more. Bit of Pulp Fiction style with random looking storylines that suddenly started, then stayed away for a while, but eventually came together. Nevertheless, I did not get bored; after the very quiet first hour, a kind of tension lingered.

Distributor is DFW, so the space errors, exclamation marks, emphasis accents and abbreviations were flying around you again. Blocking was again more important than keeping groups of words together. If you don't know the difference between 'at least' and 'at least' and 'too much' and 'too much', can't even concatenate 'shit shit' and don't know that 'college' isn't 'college', then you should really going to do something other than translating cinema films.

Sublime.

It's wonderful how a slow burner has been able to keep me on the edge of my seat for the entire 2.5 hours. Thoroughly enjoyed Mel Gibson, Vince Vaugn and Tory Kittles. Normally I would fall asleep watching a movie at such a slow pace, but the shots were breathtakingly good and the dialogues were super strong. The excessive violence did something to me for the first time. Normally I'm completely immune to things like headshots and the deaths of important characters, but this time around I caught myself giving a soft "nooo dude" a few times while staring wide-eyed at the screen. Or a few "Yo... hurry up the f***!", when one of the masked robbers told someone to do something. I don't remember a movie where I felt this tension . I doubted whether I would take half a star off the score by the end. A bit unrealistic and not really in line with the dark tone that the film tries to strike the remaining 99% of the time.

Be aware that this is a matter of taste, because my mother would fall asleep halfway through this film and she is also a nice film connoisseur/lover. But this is it all for me. Nice gritty, rough acting mainly by Mel Gibson and Tory Kittles. The ruthless bad guys. the lack of a soundtrack that only intensifies the viewing experience. I love it. more please.

By the way, I really enjoyed the scene in which Vince eats a sandwich and Mel Gibson is visibly annoyed by this. and the uncomfortable eloquence of the bank manager. For me it's those little things.

"Good heavens and praise be to Him. Can that radiant vision of maternity that just walked through our front doors possibly be our beloved Mrs. Summer?"
