This third part in this not very good series about pop Robert is set in WWII, before the first two parts. This film provides some background to the origins of Robert and a few other dolls also come to life.
Although the film is less than an hour and a half long, it is quite long-winded. The first part in particular, in which a group of rather funny Nazis goes in search of an occult book with spells that can bring objects to life, is built up painfully slowly. In some way it is appreciated that at least a story is being created around Robert, even if it is rather thin.
Robert and his friends are not really scary in this film. Their attacks are announced well in advance, so there are no scary moments. Cinematographically it all looks clumsy as ever. The Nazi actors do their best, but it is really not worth seeing - or hearing, in that English with an attempt at a German accent.
There are a few cold, dry scenes, including the murder of the young couple by the Nazis. It takes quite a while before the dolls appear on screen. Once that happens, the course is quite predictable. A rare highlight is when one of the dolls gives the Hitler salute.

I hadn't read anything about this film at all. That's why it came out very surprising. I didn't expect the war content in this film at all, but it was certainly pleasant. I thought it started very strong, but towards the end it sometimes weakened for me. But this one doesn't last that long either, so this was certainly fine! On to the next one...

You have to wait more than half an hour for the appearance of the cursed 'Robert The Doll', because Jones spends that time on a prologue that is essentially a lead-in to the fourth film in this disastrous horror series. Set in Germany in 1941, it follows Colonel Von Alvensleben [Erick Hayden] in his attempts to get his hands on a book containing occult spells. That book falls into the hands of a toy maker [Lee Bane], who uses it to bring three of his dolls (including Robert) to life. Jones wastes an awful lot of time on Von Alvensleben's lectures on poker and rats and doesn't mind that the entire cast engages in hopeless overacting. Sequel to Robert The Doll and Curse Of Robert The Doll. The disastrous level was met with an unwanted sequel with The Revenge Of Robert The Doll.
