"The ultimate sacrifice deserves the highest honor."
True story of the medic William Pitsenbarger, a war hero who saved more than 60 people in the Vietnam War. He was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic deeds. But before he got it, it was taken from him for political reasons. A battle erupts between many Vietnam veterans and the government to give the war hero the medal he deserves. Scott Huffmann is assigned to the case to investigate the grave injustice.

The film follows the "last sacrifice" of William Pitsenbarger, a soldier who, thanks to his efforts in a fierce battle, saved more than 60 boys from death.
After this blow, his superiors nominated him for the Medal of Honor, and that is where things went wrong.
Because the Medal of Honor is actually intended only for senior officers, the officers did not want to proceed with the nomination, and William was posthumously awarded the Air Force Cross, the highest distinction after the Medal of Honor.
An impressive film in which his former comrades, who owed their lives to him, campaign for the posthumous awarding of the "Medal of Honor".
It all went very slowly, and his father, who is suffering from cancer during the film, does not have long to live and holds on with the expectation that justice will eventually be done to William during his lifetime. A beautiful look back at this piece of history, in which the camera shows the present and the past, the hope and the disappointments.

For anyone who is still not convinced of the psychological traumas left behind by a stinking Vietnam War...
This constitutes one aspect of this film, but there is also the shocking way in which injustice is done through pettiness and political compromise games.
Perhaps at times there is too much emphasis on sentimentality, but the film cannot leave you indifferent.
Strong cast. Quite a few old timers of the silver screen bear witness to the chaos, the bungling, and the sacrifices of "Pits," with a tribute in the film's end credits to Peter Fonda, who passed away shortly after filming.

Certainly not bad. It took me a while to get into the first half of the film, but after that, it completely grabbed me. It was pretty much the same with the main character, 'Scott Huffman,' masterfully portrayed by Sebastian Stan. He, too, initially had absolutely no desire to take on and carry out the assignment, but over time, that perspective completely reversed. The film actually made me emotional at a few moments, which doesn't happen often, so that's a big plus. I also thought Christopher Plummer played the role of 'Frank Pitsenbarger' very well and emotionally.
