Not very engaging. The airplane scenes are decent, but the build-up to them takes far too long and is filled with uninteresting dialogue, wooden acting, and countless short shots that make for an incoherent whole.

This film shows some similarities to Wellman's Wings (1927) —with Jean Harlow in the role of Clara Bow— but is nowhere near as good as its predecessor. The aerial combat looks spectacular, with the caveat that a number of fatalities were to be regretted during filming. The scenes with the Zeppelin are also worth watching. The backstory and the acting, however, are of a questionable standard. You cannot blame the inexperienced, very young Jean Harlow (barely 18 years old at the time) for this, as he was then only at the beginning of a short but nonetheless glorious career. Surely, you would expect better work from seasoned actors like Ben Lyons and James Hall.
