[iRed Sonja][/i] is a film of contradictions. On the one hand, important points like "a good story" and "good acting" are an important foundation and it falls short here. On the other hand, the decor is so beautiful that you hardly notice it anymore. Especially for that time, I think there can be no complaints in that area. It somehow managed to entertain me.

Well entertained again. A nice snack, kind of Conan-light. Swords and a little sorcery. Very nice sets especially, both inside and outside. Ditto costumes. But 18 million was too much and unfortunately they did not earn it back. With a raid as a kick after.

Anyone who knows the source material (especially comic books) knows that it will remain simple. No complicated stuff with too many characters, just a hot bitch who takes revenge on the bitch queen Gedren who had her people murdered and steals an artifact that she wants to use as a weapon of mass destruction.

Red Sonja is long-legged, ferocious, barbaric, primitive, fiery, tough, sexy and wild. Just the way I like my Amazons. Nielsen can't act (check her facial expression at 1:13:06) but it doesn't matter much. She is very tall, physically imposing enough and therefore a good fit as an equal warrior for Schwarz. That little prince is certainly an annoying child, but that was the intention. A little odd might be casting both Schwarz and Bergmahn in completely different roles, as they both starred in Conan. Certainly with Schwarz you think that is Conan, but he plays someone else, Kalidor. Even though it takes place in the same world.

One of the lesser scenes I found with the mechanical monster in the water. It went on and on. For the rest, I enjoyed watching it. These kinds of films, however exploitative, I like a lot more than what comes out of the soulless Hollywood factory these days. Red Sonja is definitely not a film they could/should make right now, unless as a statement against the suffocating Wokeness.

Very bad.

Red Sonja has apparently become a symbol on paper. Symbols deserve good movies, of course. Often these fail a bit, but in the case of Red Sonja it is also seriously bad. I had already expected that I wouldn't like it, but not that it would turn out so disastrous.

The most surprising element of the film is Schwarzenegger, who fits into the film but should never have been in it. The fights between him and Nielsen are embarrassing and painful to watch. Sword fights in general never catch on in this movie either. It may be clear that the settings are quite large, but apparently the time has never been taken for a lot of combat training.

As an action film, therefore, it is pretty silly, but also not particularly successful as an adventure film. There is a lot of movement and Fleischer sends the film from location to location, but the variety is far too weak to impress. In addition, Nielsen's allies are just annoying characters. The dangers they encounter along the way are boring and scarce, and the mutual development is especially annoying and inhibiting.

There is also a finale that is too dull for words. I regularly look around stupidities with fantasy films, but in this case it mainly comes across as playing puppet theater with a crown on. All my points go out to some reasonably decorated set pieces, otherwise this was crying with the cap on. I heard there's a new movie of this character coming. He will then have little competition against this film.
