"A world where heroes come in all sizes and adventure is the greatest magic of all."

In the dungeons of the castle of the evil sorceress Bavmorda, a captive gives birth to a baby, which legend says will bring an end to the dark times of the evil queen. A midwife rescues Bavmorda's baby and puts it in the river just in time for the Queen's dogs to catch her. The river takes the child to a dwarf village where Willow finds the baby. From that moment on, a grand adventure begins for the little dwarf.

This used to be a funny movie.

Nice adventure story with some magic, monsters, a few forests and a little bit of gory stuff.

A few years later it's all a bit less. In itself it is still a nice film, which I can digest a lot better than LOTR, but some things are really not possible.

The brackish humor is quite incomprehensible. The music, if possible, even more absurd. Deafeningly ugly bluster that blasts through a lot of nice scenes. Those two little sidekicks are also very annoying.

Remains a nice adventure story that takes place in a somewhat more imaginative world than LOTR. As for further LOTR and Star Wars comparisons, I think those stories are also based on older Greek and Roman stuff, so wouldn't make too much of it. There is not much originality in those things either.

2* then. Some things still look very nice (especially the woods, much nicer portrayed than in ... But too cliché and with some painful negatives.

Substandard fantasy film from the pen of George Lucas that comes across as fairly childish with those dwarfs, elves (terrible!) and talking birds (hurry! Kael is coming... croaaaa). The action scenes drag on for a long time to the end and it ends completely in two minutes. The special effects weren't too good either, despite this being a big budget film. Howard knows how to see it all beautifully and with a steady hand, but it misses a lot to be a fantasy topper.

Willow is a fun adventure/fantasy film that guaranteed spectacle at the time. This film has never had a warm reception but still has a cult following. In my opinion more than right. Really beautifully made with beautiful decors and beautiful setting. The film is funny and does not bore for a second.
