Biggest reassurance was when I saw the running time of the film; the second part also only lasts 80 minutes and luckily isn't stretched to 100 minutes or more. That's nice, because a film like this succeeds just fine within those 80 minutes. Hotel Transylvania 2 is - as expected - mostly a repeat of the first film, with again a lot of visual fun and a series of puns, especially regarding the monsters. Despite the monsters, the film is quite well-behaved and sweet, with the necessary morals about acceptance and family here too. That gradually becomes a bit annoying, but not as annoying as a hip music number at the end, in which everyone starts dancing. Fortunately, the film has some very nice sequences along the way. Call me simple, but I laughed a lot at that mud monster and the other monsters all together on that scooter. That thing went slow, but fortunately the rest of the film goes smoothly and is very amusing here and there.

3 stars.

A little less fun than the previous one. There were plenty of funny moments in it and I had a good time for the most part. You could see that Dennis turned out to be a vampire coming from miles away, but I was annoyed that at the very end of the film there was still some fighting with bad guys. I thought that didn't fit the spirit of the film series so far and was pretty corny.

Mavis [Selena Gomez] and Jonathan [Andy Samberg] are now married and have a son [Asher Blinkoff] who dominates their lives so much that it's time to take a break. And so it's up to Dracula [Adam Sandler] to take care of his grandson Dennis. In addition, he decides to use the time to turn Dennis into a vampire, but that turns out (of course) not so obvious. Hotel Transylvania relied to a large extent on getting to know the many characters, but that surprise is gone. What remains is the same often hyperkinetic direction and an excess of weak jokes packed in a formulaic scenario.
