If a first part is not much more than decent and the second part is just plain awful, then you often don't have to guess what will become of a third part.

This third Scanners film offers nothing that the previous films didn't and is essentially on par with the second Scanners. However, the acting is also very poor here, and the story is simply uninteresting.

There was a bit of entertainment hidden here and there, so still one and a half stars for the effort. I'll have to watch Scanner Cop 1 and 2 soon, hoping they're a bit better than this junk...

A bizarre third installment, with a strange atmosphere and some truly ridiculous moments (the pigeon, that karate kick out of nowhere). The most ridiculous aspect is how scanning is used in practice, like a weapon deployed constantly. The faces pulled during this process will leave you feeling embarrassed on your own. But the strange atmosphere and the typical early '90s music make this watchable for fans of that era.

2.5*

A lousy third installment featuring a scanner in stiletto heels. The acting is excruciatingly bad, not to mention the dialogue. I didn't think either of the previous installments were that good, but Cronenberg's film had a menacing atmosphere and an intense horror finale... here I found it more of an action movie, and there are even funny things (that pigeon), further alienating the film from the source material. The scanners jerk their heads here, accompanied by strange grimaces to emphasize their powers. It looks truly embarrassing. This is a film series that absolutely deserves a remake.
