A Perfect Day plot

The humanitarian aid worker Sophie finds herself as a newcomer in the aftermath of the Balkan war and is immediately confronted with a corpse in a well. When Sophie and her seasoned colleagues Mambru and B do everything they can to save the remote community's water supply, they must stay one step ahead of UN bureaucracy, military groups and the local criminals. Meanwhile, they also take care of a neighborhood boy and an old flame of Mambru's appears, making matters even more complex.

Fine film that navigates remarkably easily between relativistic humor and yet quite heavy war drama with everything that comes with it. For example, disgust and frustration. These rescuers counter it with irony and all. Robbins in particular is what that indicates quite on track. It has a disarming effect, while at the same time dealing seriously with the matter. In any case, it remains far away from the emo derrie that these kinds of films sometimes want to play tricks on. Mambrú, the boy, the ball and his grandfather; it is not sweet what is really going on, but the film is not on a false note. Controlled and delicately played by everyone, engaging, subtle and it has a beautiful closing piece in the rain.

The cynicism is already in the title of this anti-war film, without battle scenes but with the horrific testimonies of the Balkan war: the horror of the well, the boy who sells his football to be with his grandfather, ignorant that his parents have been hanged, the destroyed houses in the abandoned villages, the prisoners who may still have a cruel fate, the cowardice of the mines with the shocking image of the dead cows....
The clumsiness and bad luck of the aid workers and a whole line of sarcastic humorous situations and sayings soften the event, but the suffering of the war is deep under the skin: Where have all the flowers gone ....
Great movie, a little underrated in my opinion.
Decent acting, possibly with Tim Robbins as the most striking figure, but no one stands out.

Definitely underrated. A perfect day is a clever film that is full of humor but at the same time poignant, absurd and socially relevant. And all that without using arthouse manners in any way. Bold music too, nice characters, great camera work. And then the story: a quest in search of a rope and a ball in the countryside somewhere in the former Yugoslavia, where the civil war still completely grips the area. I doubt about four stars, not for the time being, but this is a wonderful Balkan print (from Spain).
