No, this just wasn't me. Don't find Paul's life and his character so great to stare at it for 131 minutes. I couldn't care less what would happen to him (and could hardly notice that he would be so addicted). And what Wibro says: then here again, then there and bite back again. Music is nice now and then (Da Funk) but we expected a bit more from that too.

Without added value and much too long. A young French garage/nu-disco DJ is closely followed in his life over a period of 20 years, with moments from his career and moments from his unstable private life with failed relationships and financial problems. Certainly the last part, when it gradually becomes "has been" is the best. You could say that it is a rise & fall of a DJ, but actually that is not true: it is life that just goes on and people that get older.

But as Wibro also excellently points out, it goes from one point to the next and the characters remain superficial. The film also teaches the viewer absolutely nothing about the musical culture it depicts. The passion for music doesn't really splash off the screen and is limited to club atmosphere images with a selection of garage hits from past decades, which makes the film very repetitive.

The handful of Mia Hansen-Løve films that I have seen so far have not impressed me. This film about the Parisian underground in the 90s is no exception. The monotonous tunes eventually made me go crazy, but that must be just me (generation gap). Surprising to come across the refugee Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani (Darbareye Elly) in this film about youth culture.
