A group of youngsters assault a criminal and force him to open his safe. They take four million in heroin and leave the man gagged. The next day he is found to have been murdered. Police Inspector Tibbs (Poitier) investigates the case.

I found the plot decent but rather vague. A group of vigilantes robs a company of a shipment of drugs that belonged to a crime syndicate. Additionally, Tibbs must also figure out the strange murder of the company manager. Poitier steps into the role of Tibbs for the third time, and this film stands out because it was Raul Julia's debut. A few minor twists do not prevent the film from leaving a lackluster impression. In any case, I found Tibbs to be a character far ahead of his time; a Black hero in a period when racism was still prevalent in the US. Nice to see once, but I fear a film like this is quickly forgotten.

A decent crime thriller about a group of athletes robbing a crime indicator of a substantial amount of drugs, the opening scene is done originally and the sequel is also worthwhile with a number of beautiful scenes in San Francisco.

A police movie with 70s vibes, if only for the "freestyle" jazz music, which works well in this film. Poitier acts well, as does Julía, yet the whole thing comes across as somewhat contrived. Ultimately, it is about power in the drug world versus police investigation. The build-up is good; otherwise, it is a bit chaotic, but it is easy to watch. The whole thing reminds me of Kojak meets Baretta meets Columbo. Nevertheless, a good portrayal of the era with the then-emerging drug problem. 3.2* Remarkable: "The anti-smoking advertisement in the captain's office."
