I'm on episode 4 right now and I really like it. The quality of the seasons has always been variable with the Expanse, but certainly this season I miss a kind of soul, I have no idea how else to describe it. Plus, the whole Marco Inaros club is so stereotypical and Marco himself is so terribly wooden.

Mixed feelings,

On the one hand, this is just a wonderful season. It takes half an hour to come in, but after that it's just fun again; the political intrigue, space battles, but also the dialogues between the characters themselves. Now and then a little bit cringe but never annoyingly long stretched or really overdone. I just think it's a lovely setting. Holden as grumpy smartass, Amos and Bobbie as sympathetic warriors, Marco Inaros as bad guy, and Avaserala as stereotypically unsympathetic politician.

However, there is a small problem with this season: It is the last season. Now it had to come to an end, and that was fine in itself this season, but it leaves the viewer anything but satisfied.

In fact, I actually liked the season so much that I felt a second wind and a touch of protomolecule magic from the previous seasons. The bits of Laconia got more interesting and interesting and towards the end I expected a huge climax but instead we got nothing.

I haven't read the books so maybe so maybe I'm missing something but it's become a bit of a dead sparrow saying now. Too bad, it looked promising.

The show is probably too expensive to keep running any longer. Something that wouldn't surprise me at all as bold as it looks. Because that definitely needs to be said, the CGI is really awesome.

Too bad the ride is over, overall it was a really wonderful series that I thoroughly enjoyed.

TL;DR: Good season, but last season a little less successful.

3.5*

Too bad I've been through it since tonight. This was clearly one of my favorite series of all time, on par with Breaking Bad.

Enjoyed for six seasons this sci-fi world that never feels unrealistic for a second, but only provides the logical and spectacular, yet non-distracting backdrop for mystery, politics, action and epic drama. With humans still a few centuries in the future as violent and racist, but also innovative and cooperative beings. Fucking fat!

Shohreh Aghdashlo steals the show as the leader of planet Earth. But character Marco Inaros is also a great find as a charismatic 'freedom fighter' who serves as the main (human) antagonist. The Drummer characters and the Rosinante crew also make the series very rewarding.

The very best and coolest character in the entire series, though? Despite a relatively short role - it had to be - that is clear and from a distance: boss Klaes Ashford.

The only flaw in the series - besides perhaps a few annoying or poorly cast side characters (the young virgin OPA terrorist; the Baltimore gang leader) - is that the ending is unsatisfactory. All through season 6 I was particularly fascinated by the denouement on the unknown planet that never came... Were those 'dogs' the intelligent beings who built the Protomolecule? What exactly is wrong with the boy who has risen from the dead? How are things going there? And who or what are those 'Ring entities' that can just blow up the universe and what do they want? Too much remains unanswered and I very much hope for a part 7.
