Vera plot

Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope lives in the North East of England. This workaholic lady won't let herself be boxed in. Dressed in her oversized dresses, usually paired with a pair of chunky wellies, she's the police team's terror. She is strict with almost everyone except her right-hand man Joe Ashworth. She's on top of every murder case in quiet Northumberland. The stern Chief Inspector may seem tough, but has a small heart. Combined with her bravery, cynical sense of humor and high intelligence, she tries to bring every case to a successful conclusion.

Actually met Brenda Blethyn in "London River" (2009) and saw her as a perfect concerned mother figure. Rather folksy and with both determination and emotion in her act.

Far from finding her now in a role as a police officer in a successful series that has been running for years. However, her folksiness (Her coat and hat seem rather tatty and the word "love" as a term of address is never far away) and the decisiveness are certainly in her actions and in the fire with which she encourages her team. She saves the emotion for the end when she sympathizes with the suffering of victims and even perpetrators.

Good series with, as always, a varying level among the episodes that always form a separate story.
